School Stylist
I miss it. I reminisce about it. The quintessential feel of the 80’s & 90’s beauty salons. It was more than hair; it was a community. Each visit was a gathering, each stylist like a sister, each salon a sanctuary. We may have left those years behind, but with Old School Stylist, we’re bringing the heart and soul of that era back into style. If you’re an 80’s or 90’s stylist, client, or admirer, our apparel is for you—a piece of our legacy to carry forward.

My First Client
A Dedication to My Sister
It must have been an act of God that night—because my one and only big sister, Niki Yolanda Banks, actually let my tender, unskilled, and eager little fingers in her hair. I had begged her countless times to let me do it. What style? I had no clue (lol). All I knew was that I wanted to "do hair," and she was blessed with plenty of it.
I can still hear the giggles and squeals of excitement that must have filled the house. My mom came upstairs to our bedroom and captured this moment—the moment I like to call "My First Client." From that day on, I gave my sister any hairstyle she wanted—once she trusted my skills, of course.
But on March 3, 2020, my world changed forever. My sister, Niki, was taken from her children—Keith, Michael, Olivia, and Jelani—and from me due to domestic violence. She was only 52. Just two months earlier, in January 2020, she had become a first-time grandmother, overjoyed with love.
She was beautiful. Brilliant—my personal Google. A truth-teller. And above all, a loving mother.
We miss her every day, and our fight for justice continues.
